This course will prepare you on your embarkation of an exciting and rewarding career in aircraft maintenance. The programme of study is designed to provide you with a university level education to open your prospects for career progression built on strong academic foundations. It is designed to cover all the theoretical aspects leading to EASA Part 66 training and includes a practical element with supervised, on the job training with our industrial collaborators, including Lufthansa Technik and EasyJet Engineering. The course will cover topics such as Aircraft structures, Aircraft powerplants, Avionics, Electrical theory, Aviation materials, Human factors in shop-floor operations, and Aviation legislation, amongst others. The course offers prospective students with the skills to pursue a rewarding career in the aircraft maintenance industry.

Information for International applicants

Applicants shall be in possession of passes in the Secondary Education Certificate Examination at Grade 5 or better, or at SEC Level 3, in the following:

  1. Physics
  2. Mathematics
  3. English Language
  4. Maltese or any other language that satisfies Regulation 13 of the Admissions Regulations 2016: Maltese as a Requirement.

(1) Subject to the approval of the Board, applicants not in possession of the qualifications indicated in the above paragraph but in possession of other qualifications in an area of study related to Aviation, Science or Technology may also be considered.

(2) Applicants considered as 鈥淎dult Learners鈥 (mature applicants) in terms of paragraph (c) of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of those qualifications and/or experience that would satisfy the Board that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Course with profit. Such applicants shall be required to submit with their application a letter written in English giving their motivation for applying for this Course together with a copy of their Curriculum Vitae(C.V.).

(3) The eligibility of applicants referred to in paragraphs (1) and (2) shall be decided by the Board, following an interview conducted by a board appointed for the purpose.

The number of students shall be limited to 10 students.

Applicants shall be selected on the basis of their academic qualifications and performance during an interview, the weighting for which shall be published at the time of the call for applications.

Requirement for award of Pre-Tertiary Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance: 60 ECTS credits

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Pre-Tertiary Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance under the auspices of the Institute of Aerospace Technologies.

By the end of the programme, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of the fundamental principles that make commercial flight and aviation maintenance possible and safe;
  • Describe the functionality and fundamental principles of operation of various aircraft avionics systems on board aircraft and the interaction between different systems;
  • Explain the merits of aircraft structures and design as well as those of the materials and processes used in the industry;
  • Explain the merits of aircraft powerplant designs and technology;
  • Explain the regulatory and operational frameworks associated with Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) organisations;
  • Assimilate the theoretical knowhow and apply it directly to practice during the internship opportunities with the industrial collaborations.
