| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is designed to provide non-native English-speaking students with the necessary language skills needed for effective communication in the aerospace industry. The study-unit is delivered with a specific focus on the practical use of the language in technical and workplace contexts, aimed at enhancing speaking, reading, and writing abilities. Students will engage with aerospace-specific vocabulary, standard workplace interactions, and reading and writing of technical documentation to support their future roles as technicians in international aerospace environments. Study-Unit Aims: To develop students’ ability to understand and use English confidently and accurately in typical technical and workplace situations encountered in the aerospace industry, thereby enhancing communication effectiveness in an English-speaking professional environment. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Understand and apply field-specific, technical vocabulary and terminology. - Read, understand and prepare technical reports. - Communicate using appropriate tone and structure with written media, such as emails, reports, and technical logs. - Express themselves orally in a technical context. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Speaking: Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors, describe technical procedures, give and follow instructions. - Reading: Interpret manuals, procedural documentation, safety notices, and technical specifications. - Writing: Write concise and accurate reports, and compose emails using appropriate formal and technical language. - Listening: Understand verbal instructions, follow technical discussions, and interpret information delivered in standard English. |
