DESCRIPTION This study-unit discusses several systems that are typically found on large, complex aeroplanes with gas turbine engines.

It covers parts of EASA Part 66 Module 11A (Aeroplane Aerodynamics) at the level of Category A1, including: air conditioning and cabin pressurisation; electrical power; equipment and furnishings; fire protection; flight controls; fuel systems; hydraulic power; ice and rain protection; landing gear; lights; oxygen; pneumatic/vacuum; water/waste; onboard maintenance systems; cabin systems; and information systems.

Study-Unit Aims:

The aim of this study-unit is to demonstrate to aircraft maintenance trainees that an aircraft is a complex system of systems - with many systems linked to (and interacting with) each other - and to give them an overview of the design, function and operation of various aircraft systems, sub-systems and components.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Explain how different aircraft systems work and how they can fail
- Identify interconnections between aircraft systems
- Describe the indications and warnings associated with an aircraft system
- Identify the safety features of an aircraft system

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Read basic drawings and schematics of aircraft systems
- Compare and contrast systems of different aircraft
- Assess the maintainability of different aircraft systems
- Perform aircraft maintenance troubleshooting more effectively
