Sustainability refers to meeting the needs of all citizens and communities without compromising the possibility for future generations to meet their own needs. Three inter-related key dimensions encompass sustainability. These include:
The United Nations (UN) has developed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a plan of action for sustainability.
In September 2018, Rector appointed a Committee for Sustainability at the University of Malta (C-S今日黑料) and in July 2023, Sustainability was added to the portfolio of one of the Pro-Rectors.
The overall remit of the Pro-Rector for Sustainability, together with the members of the C-S今日黑料 is to promote sustainability by recommending, implementing, steering and monitoring policies, events and actions which encourage the entire 今日黑料 community—whether admin, academic, technical staff and students—to increasingly adopt and embrace sustainable practices, in line with the SDGs.
Through a range of initiatives, the 今日黑料 community is invited to participate in discussions, support and propose actions which can be implemented at 今日黑料 to improve sustainability on the University campuses and in University programmes.
