This DGP unit is designed for students wishing to become more proficient at speaking in public, whether to enhance their self-confidence or to improve performance in academic presentations, professional meetings and interviews.
Semester 2
Surveys on financial literacy constantly show that a large part of the population do not grasp basic financial concepts. This leads them to at best not be able to take correct decisions in terms of financial matters and at worse to make bad decisions which will impact their financial future.
In extreme cases, this might even lead them to lose money. Therefore it is important to start educating people about basic financial concepts. Furthermore, one of the recommendations of the Maltese Pension Reform working group was to develop a financial literacy strategy.
This is in line with this goal. The unit is aimed at all students with no prior knowledge about finance, accounting, economics, etc. The unit aims to educate students with basic concepts such as inflation, interest rates, pension, investments, budgeting, etc.
Semester 2
This study-unit is designed for students from all academic backgrounds and stages of their degree, who wish to cultivate their entrepreneurial flair, leadership skills and creativity.
Delivered in the form of a week-long BootCamp, the StartUp Programme is all about finding your niche and developing a business concept which has the potential to make a big impact on the market and the lives of your customers.
JA StartUp Teams learn how to recognise their strengths, build a team, research, and create an innovative product/service and put their concept to the test.

This unit is designed for students of all experience levels in creative writing. New writers are especially welcome! The unit will give students the opportunity to experiment with different narrative forms, styles, and genres in a supportive environment.
Each lecture will consist of short writing exercises (“sprints”) followed by a workshop format centered on the work generated by the in-class exercises. Students may also expand on their in-class work and bring in updated pieces for additional feedback over the course of the semester.
Students are highly encouraged to both share their work and give thoughtful feedback to each other during the workshop section of class. The lectures are interactive and students are encouraged to actively participate.
The unit will focus mostly on narrative writing, but any kind of creative writing is welcome. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with different forms, styles, and genres, and their specific interests will be supported by the instructor.

This training unit provides participants with greater awareness and understanding of the dangers of fire and helps them to identify and reduce the risk that fire presents in the workplace.
Participants will understand the actions to take in the event of discovering a fire or hearing the fire alarm sound in the workplace. This DGP unit is delivered by qualified and experienced trainers & it's a one time session being held on a Saturday.

This DGP unit is an essential toolbox for future and present marketers, entrepreneurs and community workers who seek to create high-quality brand identities and visual assets for their brands. Students will get a head start on the basics of graphic design and learn the basics of graphic design software.

This study unit provides an introduction to Malta’s corporate and personal taxation system through a practical, applied approach. Students will explore the main tax principles, rates, allowances, deductions, and credits affecting individuals and companies, and learn how different types of income are taxed under Maltese law. The unit also examines Malta’s corporate tax framework, including the full imputation system, key international taxation concepts such as double taxation relief and tax treaties, and the fundamentals of Value Added Tax (VAT), covering registration, exemptions, and compliance requirements.

War, peace, security and other global issues have been deeply gendered throughout history.
Globally, gender is one of the crucial factors that determine who is most vulnerable to abuse and violence during wars, who commands authority and respect and who is marginalised, who gets access to basic amenities and who does not.
Gender is also a determinant of who is involved in framing the debate around security and insecurity domestically and internationally.

This course introduces the European Union and EU law within the context of a state’s membership of the EU and then deals with selected topics which are of direct interest to the general public about EU citizens’ rights.

This study-unit will cover the entire process that goes from writing documents using advanced programs to producing high-quality project reports through the LaTeX writing system
We will start from the basics of LaTeX to advanced topics focused at the particular disciplines of the participants. LaTeX is used widely by publishers; in fact, most journal papers are submitted in LaTeX. On the other hand, if you are working on a final year dissertation or are preparing for one then you may want to consider writing it in LaTeX. LaTeX is completely free for use and has become a community standard for many disciplines.
This unit is a must for science, engineering and ICT students.
LaTeX software is free and is compatible with any device. Basic Astronomy shall be aimed at an audience with very little to no knowledge of astronomy and cosmology.
Attendees shall embark on a journey through the fabric of the cosmos, exploring the myriad of observations and discoveries that has led to our current knowledge of the universe.
From discussing the processes that result in star and black hole formation to looking at observations that have given us knowledge of the rate of expansion of the universe, this course shall give all those attending a basic understanding of the underlying concepts of astronomy.
Additionally, attendees shall have the opportunity to learn how to use an optical telescope and obtain knowledge of how telescopes of different designs are used to capture images of cosmic objects.

Actively participate in debates and discussions on various topics of national and international interest, thereby enhancing essential character skills such as organisational and social skills. Through practice and/or specialised training throughout the year, participants will improve their critical thinking, public speaking and build confidence/learn to deliver argumentation effectively as

Semester 2
This study-unit introduces students to the Open Science movement and the practical skills needed to make research more visible, reusable and collaborative. Students will learn how to discover, share and evaluate research outputs across a variety of platforms. Sessions
combine interactive discussions with hands-on demonstrations, including the use of OiPub.com, a platform designed to improve
research discoverability and community engagement. The unit also explores complementary tools such as ORCID, Zenodo, Litmaps and
AI-based discovery systems, giving participants a broad toolkit for navigating today’s research landscape.
Semester 1, Summer
This course will provide basic skills to analyze data using both SPSS and EXCEL. The course will focus on sampling techniques, sample size calculation; provide basics of SPSS, including generating variables and data entry; explore SPSS graphics for continuous and categorical variables including histograms, bar graphs, scatter plots, clustered bar graphs, boxplots and error bar graphs; explore SPSS tables including frequency tables, boxplots and descriptive statistics tables; discuss measures of location and dispersion including the mean, median, mode, range, standard deviation, quartiles and inter-quartile range; explore inferential techniques to generalise results, including the One-Way ANOVA test, Pearson correlation test, Chi square test, One-sample t-test, Paired sample t-test, independent samples t-test, and Friedman test; and introduce the concept of regression analysis.
