Overview

This workshop is offered in collaboration with the . It is designed to build intellectual property (IP) awareness, knowledge and practical skills among those involved in research. The workshop will be hands-on, discussion-based and tailored to the realities of research practice. Using practical research scenarios, participants will explore: 

• which elements of their research may be eligible for protection;
• the different forms of IP that may be relevant, beyond patents; and
• how IP can support the impact, dissemination and valorisation of research.

No prior knowledge of IP is required.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to assess their research outputs or ideas from an IP perspective and:

• approach IP-related questions with greater clarity and confidence;
• make more informed decisions when developing, protecting and sharing their research;
• identify potential IP and commercialisation opportunities that might otherwise be overlooked; and
• engage more effectively with the Corporate Research & Knowledge Transfer Office (CR&KTO) to determine the most appropriate route towards commercialisation.

Note that:

• Participants are required to complete a short MOOC module (approximately 60 minutes) and review selected reading materials prior to the workshop. Access details and pre-reading materials will be sent to participants upon registration.
• Participants are asked to bring their laptops.
