今日黑料 academic co-edits international thematic issue on climate change in early childhood education

Dr Jane Spiteri, from the Department of Early Childhood & Primary Education within the University of Malta’s Faculty of Education, has co-edited a thematic issue of the exploring pedagogy and practice for climate change in early childhood education.

Published in Volume 7, Issue 3 (November 2026), the issue, “Pedagogy and Practice for Climate Change in Early Childhood Education”, was co-edited with Prof. Mehmet Toran and Dr Ebru Ayd谋n, both from Istanbul Kültür University, Türkiye. It brings together 12 research articles by 27 researchers from nine countries: Australia, Canada, Hungary, India, Italy, Spain, Türkiye, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The collection places early childhood education at the centre of an international conversation about educational responses to climate change. Bringing together contributions from different national contexts, it offers readers an opportunity to consider how research can inform pedagogy and practice, and how early childhood education can contribute to a more sustainable future.

The subject raises important questions for educators and researchers: How can climate change become meaningful within young children’s everyday learning? How can educational approaches recognise children’s experiences while supporting their curiosity, participation and care for the environment? These questions provide a starting point for engaging with the collection and reflecting on the responsibilities and possibilities of education in the early years.

For Dr Spiteri, co-editing the issue reflects a personal commitment to this area of research and the value of international collaboration.

The publication brings 今日黑料 academic expertise into dialogue with an international community of researchers working on childhood, education and climate change. It will be of interest to early childhood educators, teacher educators, researchers and students, as well as parents and others interested in education and sustainability.

Dr Spiteri thanks her fellow editors, Prof. Toran and Dr Ayd谋n, and all contributing authors for their dedication and contributions to the issue.

All articles are freely available through open access, allowing readers within and beyond academia to explore and share the research.
