Overview

The mission of the Directorate for Outreach Services – C2C (Campus to Community; Community to Campus) is to create meaningful connections between the University of Malta and the communities it serves by:

• promoting community engagement and social responsibility
• facilitating partnerships between academia and community organisations
• supporting learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom
• encouraging the exchange of knowledge between academic and community stakeholders.

A core objective of the C2C Directorate is to cultivate partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders, including:

• Schools and educational institutions
• Non-governmental organisations (NGOs)
• Local councils
• Voluntary organisations
• Government agencies

These collaborations aim to support community-focused initiatives and ensure that university expertise contributes directly to addressing societal challenges and local needs.

During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore potential initiatives that encourage collaboration between their departments, community organisations and public stakeholders. The workshop aims to support the development of sustainable partnerships that facilitate mutual learning, knowledge exchange and meaningful engagement, while creating opportunities for communities to benefit from the University’s expertise, learning opportunities and research.

The workshop will also include contributions from academics who have been involved in outreach and community engagement initiatives. They will share examples from their own experience, including how partnerships were developed, the challenges they encountered, what worked well, and the lessons they learned along the way.

Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss the practical challenges involved in developing outreach initiatives and consider how the C2C Directorate can support them in taking their ideas forward.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Describe the role and functions of the Directorate for Outreach Services - C2C and its contribution to University–community engagement. 
• Identify potential outreach opportunities within their department that could address community needs and create opportunities for mutual learning. 
• Identify relevant community and public stakeholders with whom their department could collaborate on outreach initiatives. 
• Propose an outreach initiative and outline how a sustainable partnership could be developed and maintained. 
• Identify potential challenges associated with developing and implementing outreach initiatives and suggest ways of addressing them. 
• Outline the type of support, resources and guidance they may require from the Directorate for Outreach Services - C2C.
