Cultivating Creative Thinking: Teaching Strategies in the Age of AI

This session gives academics an opportunity to think about the place of creativity in their teaching, particularly at a time when AI is becoming more widely used at university.
Participants will consider what creativity means in their own teaching and explore the difference between teaching creatively (how they deliver content) and teaching for creativity (how they design tasks that build student creativity). They will look at how both approaches can be used in different subject areas and how creative thinking can be encouraged within existing teaching practices.
The workshop will include discussion, practical activities and opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues from other disciplines. Participants will also experiment with AI tools and consider how these can support the planning of creative teaching approaches without replacing the lecturer's role.
Ideas emerging from the workshop will also contribute to the development of a practical cross-disciplinary resource on supporting creative thinking in teaching.
