Among a series of meetings held with various national institutions and stakeholders on governance, constitutional matters and education, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, , met with the Rector of the University of Malta, Prof. Frank Bezzina, on Monday, 19 October 2026.

The first formal meeting between the two focused on strengthening relations and fostering closer cooperation between Parliament and the University of Malta, with a view to enhancing engagement between the parliamentary institution and the academic community.

During the meeting, Prof. Bezzina presented the Speaker with a copy of ‘The University of Malta: Legacies and Bearings’.

The meeting formed part of a wider programme of engagements by the Speaker. These included a meeting with the Auditor General, Charles Deguara, who presented the Report on the Audit of Government-Appointed Bodies, as well as a separate meeting with Dr Robert Musumeci, who presented a copy of his book 'Understanding Malta’s Constitution', exploring the development of Malta’s constitutional framework and the principles underpinning its institutions.

Through closer dialogue and cooperation, the University of Malta and Parliament can continue to strengthen the relationship between academia and public institutions, supporting engagement on matters of shared national interest.
