A celebration of vision, initiative and remarkable resourcefulness marked the unveiling of a commemorative plaque at the , paying tribute to Professor George P. Xuereb, who served as Rector of the University of Malta between 1982 and 1987.
The commemorative plaque recognises Professor Xuereb's foresight, determination and contribution to the establishment and development of IMLI, an institution whose creation represented an important milestone in Malta's contribution to international maritime law education and cooperation.
This tribute honours his vision and determination, which helped established IMLI and shape it into the institution it is today, and which are certainly reflected in the very same building where the plaque now stands.
Professor Xuereb's contribution stands as an example of how individual commitment and institutional leadership can translate into initiatives with a lasting impact, extending well beyond their original context and benefiting generations to come.
The unveiling offered an opportunity to reflect on his contribution and acknowledge the fact that his work helped shape an important chapter in Malta's academic and maritime history.
