Wellbeing and Policy: Evidence for Action, a major volume co-edited by University of Malta academic Prof. Marie Briguglio alongside Natalia V. Czap (University of Michigan-Dearborn) and Kate Laffan (London School of Economics), has recorded remarkable international reach during its first year of publication. The book has generated over 57,000 chapter uses across 47 countries and 240 institutions via Routledge alone. Publisher metrics confirm these figures are significantly above average, with total readership higher still across platforms like OAPEN, Open Research Library, and DOAB. Top users include major universities alongside government entities.
Designed for maximum practical impact, the book features concise chapters accompanied by accessible "cheat sheets" for policy-makers seeking actionable intervention strategies. Synthesising insights from 41 authors across 18 countries, the volume covers key sectors—including health, income, environment, housing, work, and digital technology—alongside international case studies from countries like Bhutan, New Zealand, Finland, Canada, and Malta.
University of Malta academics made substantial contributions to the volume: co-editor Prof. Marie Briguglio co-authored the introductory chapter as well as chapters on housing and health, besides the Malta case-study. Prof. Leonie Baldacchino authored the chapter on art, culture, and creativity; and Dr Daniel Gravino and Dr Dylan Cassar co-authored the chapter on housing and neighbourhoods.
As global demand for evidence-based interventions grows, this open-access resource offers vital guidance for policy-makers, academics, and students. The full volume is freely available under a CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 license, partly assisted by the University of Malta Seed Fund.
