Post of Dental Technologist
Faculty of Dental Surgery

Applications are invited for the post of Laboratory Officer (dental technology) in the Faculty of Dental Surgery. The laboratory officer will be working at the Faculty’s dental laboratories facilities. The successful candidate will be appointed for a period of four years with the possibility of renewal.

Eligibility

The position of Laboratory Officer requires the post holder to be in possession of:

• Sc. in Dental Technology (MQF Level 6 – minimum 180 ECTS); OR
• Relevant Higher Diploma (MQF Level 5) in a Dental Technology or equivalent qualifications

Final-year students about to attain a MQF Level 6 qualification can also apply.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Good Organisational Skills
• Able to work in a team
• Must be proficient in IT technology, including digital dentistry workflows
• Be responsible and carry out any assigned work with diligence.

Salary Details

The post for 2026 carries an annual salary of €26,010.

An allowance of €5,000 will be paid annually to those applicants in possession of B.Sc. Degree in dental Technology (MQF Level 6 – minimum 180 ECTS). An allowance of €10,000 will be paid annually to those applicants in possession of an M.Sc. Degree in dental technology-related studies.

Further Information

The Faculty of Dental Surgery is primarily responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. The disciplines include Dental Surgery, Dental Hygiene and Dental Technology and their subdivisions. The laboratory training is conducted within a number of dental laboratories and successful candidates will be expected to travel between the various sites.

The appointee will be required to assist in the upkeep and day-to-day running of the dental laboratories, support academic, research staff and students in experimental work in the Faculty of Dental Surgery and in other duties as may be required.  The appointee will be required to assist academic staff and students in the preparation and experimental procedures required for research projects.

List of Main Duties:

• Must be proficient in removable prosthodontics and orthodontics together with a basic knowledge of fixed prosthodontics;
• Must have a working knowledge of digital dentistry workflows;
• Must be able to transmit learned basic techniques to students;
• Assist in carrying out work as a continuity of student clinal skills as required;
• Must adhere to time dates given so as to ensure smooth running of service offered;
• Must be able to assist students in their assigned laboratory sessions;
• Must be able to produce properly trimmed study models and prepare any laboratory demonstration models required for exam purposes;
• Carry out any other related duties or responsibilities as instructed by the Dean/ Head of Department/ or delegates.

The appointee is expected to work:

• on a full-time basis, and will not be allowed to engage in any other gainful employment without the permission of the Council;
• at such places and during such hours as determined by the University authorities.

Selection Procedures

• The evaluation of qualifications and experience claimed and supported by testimonials and/or certificates (copies to be included with the application).
• Short-listing of candidates.
• An invitation to short-listed candidates to a Selection Board interview.

Selection Process

The selection process will follow the document “Guidelines for Members of Selection Boards in the Recruitment of Administrative, Technical and Industrial Staff”

(/hr/policiesprocedures).

In accordance with the guidelines, members of the Selection Board will establish the following selection criteria for the selection process:

• Relevant academic qualifications
• Relevant work experience
• Aptitude and suitability

The appointment will be subject to a probationary period of six months, and to the provisions of the Statutes, Regulations and Bye-Laws of the University which are now or which may hereafter be in force.
