Dr Panagiotis Alexiou
Dr Panagiotis Alexiou is the ERA Chair of the BioGeMT project at the University of Malta. His research focuses on modelling post-transcriptional regulation and developing innovative machine learning methods for biomedical applications, with a particular interest in applying computational approaches to complex biological problems.
Prof. Jean-Paul Ebejer
Prof. Jean-Paul Ebejer is Chair for Bioinformatics at the University of Malta, where he is based at the Centre for Molecular Medicine and Biobanking. His research focuses on the development and application of bioinformatics, machine learning and data science methods to problems in molecular biology, with particular interests in structural bioinformatics and computer-aided drug discovery. He holds an M.Sc. in Bioinformatics and Theoretical Systems Biology from Imperial College London and a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford, where he worked on structural bioinformatics and computational drug discovery.
Dr Vlastimil Martinek
Dr Vlastimil Martinek is a computer scientist with expertise in machine learning and computational biology research. Research areas of interest include ageing, cancer biology, and automation of scientific research.
Andrea Gariboldi
Andrea is a research scientist with hands-on experience in relational data modeling and SQL, and agentic LLM systems. He is passionate about advancing capabilities in Generative AI and Machine Learning.
Carlos Gafa
Carlos is a prospective doctoral student interested in using machine learning to study protein–ligand binding. He has a background in mathematics and physics, and currently works in industry developing financial and econometric models. His interests centre on applying quantitative and machine learning methods to problems across various scientific fields.
Dimosthenis Tzimotoudis
Dimosthenis is a research scientist and PhD candidate in Bioinformatics focusing on evolutionary biology. He develops small RNA deep learning models and genomic sequence mapping algorithms.
