Prof Josephine Attard is a resident academic at the Department of Midwifery, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Malta. Prof Attard qualified as a nurse-midwife in 1981 and gained clinical experience in antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care. She obtained a post-graduate certificate in education in 1991 from the University of Malta, an M.Sc. in nursing/midwifery education in 1999 and a PhD from the University of South Wales, UK, in 2015. Her PhD focused on the design and evaluation of a competency framework that addresses the need for a rigorous and validated competency framework in spiritual care to guide the education and practice of nurses and midwives.
Prof Attard also currently teaches and supervises midwifery students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is Co-Coordinator of the Erasmus+ midwifery student exchange. She has extensive experience in curriculum development and was instrumental in the design and development of various midwifery degrees at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, CPD courses and microcredentials. She has gained extensive experience in professional doctoral education in nursing and midwifery.
Prof Attard is a member of the EPICC Strategic Research Network on Spirituality. She represented the University of Malta on one of the European Erasmus+ projects (EPICC). Prof Attard is a peer reviewer for The Journal of Religion & Health (JORH) and a book reviewer for Springer Nature. Prof Josephine Attard is one of the book editors of 'Enhancing Nurses’ and Midwives’ Competence in Providing Spiritual Care, Springer Nature UK'.
