Francesca Vella is a Research Support Officer II with the 'Discourses of Environment and Climate Change' (DECC) Cluster at the University of Malta, where she is currently a PhD student. She holds a Master's degree from the same university, where her dissertation examined the ways empathy is cultivated through narrative fiction across literature, film, and theatre.
Francesca's main research interests span across cultural studies, narrative theory, and the environmental humanities. Applying affect theory to narrative fiction, her work explores how creative mediums shape emotional engagement and intersect with contemporary activism, particularly in an age of climate change.
