Prof. Ing. John Licari and Prof. Alexander Micallef from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Malta attended the 22nd World Congress of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), held in Busan, Republic of Korea, from 23 to 28 August 2026.
As part of the conference, a paper entitled “A Numerical Multilinearisation Approach for Dynamic Stability Analysis of Converter-Dominated Power Systems” was presented, showcasing some of the research milestones achieved through the TenSyGrid project.
The study investigates the use of numerical multilinearisation to develop simplified models for analysing the dynamic stability of converter-dominated power systems.
The results demonstrate that the approximated multilinear model captures the nonlinear dynamics of an inverter-generator power system and that the resulting multilinear inverter model can be used as a surrogate model for representing nonlinear inverter dynamics.
TenSyGrid, Tensors for System Analysis of Converter-dominated Power Grids, is a three-year research project funded by the national funding agencies of five partner countries through the Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETP), co-funded by the European Commission under Grant Agreement No. 101069750.
The University of Malta, through the Department of Electrical Engineering, is one of the project partners. Launched in December 2024, the project brings together five partners from Germany, Spain and Malta and focuses on developing advanced tools for the analysis and stability assessment of converter-dominated power grids.
