The Department of Translation, Terminology, and Interpreting Studies at the University of Malta continues to strengthen its ties with EU institutions. Dr Spiteri Miggiani recently delivered specialised training and consultancy to the European Parliament’s Audiovisual Translation Unit, which is part of the European Parliament Translation Service and handles linguistic accessibility and audiovisual translation across all 24 official EU languages.
The collaboration focused on voice-over workflow design, operational management, and quality assessment—resulting in the development of a tailored Voice-Over translation quality framework for the provision of linguistic accessibility services. Reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of audiovisual media, the sessions actively engaged project managers, audio producers, and sound engineers to align creative, technical, and linguistic workflows.
Through initiatives like this, the Department’s academics actively help shape the future of European language services while equipping the next generation of translation and accessibility experts. The Department offers postgraduate training in audiovisual translation, along with various other specializations.
