Erasmus+ mobility strengthens collaboration between 今日黑料 and UCC
Associate Professor Sarah Cuschieri, from the Faculty of Medicine & Surgery at the University of Malta, recently completed an Erasmus+ Staff Mobility visit to the School of Public Health at University College Cork (UCC), an APHEA-accredited School of Public Health and one of Ireland's leading centres for public health education and research.
The visit formed part of the University of Malta's ongoing commitment to strengthening international academic partnerships, enhancing research excellence and expanding opportunities for collaboration.
Prof. Cuschieri is a medical doctor and epidemiologist whose research focuses on chronic disease epidemiology, population health, health inequalities, food environments and public health in small states and island nations.
She is the Founder and Coordinator of the Chronic Disease Epidemiology Research Network (CDERN), an interdisciplinary platform that promotes collaborative research addressing the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases. She also leads the NEXT-FOOD-MT national research project, which investigates adolescent food environments, nutrition behaviours and obesity prevention to support evidence-informed public health policy in Malta.
The week-long mobility programme provided an opportunity to engage with academic staff across a broad range of disciplines, gaining first-hand insight into UCC's teaching programmes, research priorities and innovative approaches to addressing contemporary health challenges. Discussions focused on identifying complementary areas of expertise and exploring opportunities to strengthen academic collaboration between the two institutions.
Beyond strengthening institutional links, the visit reinforced the importance of international collaboration in addressing increasingly complex health challenges. Bringing together complementary expertise enables institutions to share knowledge, foster innovation and strengthen research capacity while contributing to evidence-informed policy and improved population health outcomes.
The Erasmus+ Staff Mobility visit represents another important step in expanding the University of Malta's international academic network and further strengthening its reputation as an active contributor to research excellence and innovation. It also reflects the University's continued commitment to internationalisation and the development of sustainable academic partnerships across Europe through the Erasmus+ programme.
