The Department of Communication Therapy within the University鈥檚 Faculty of Health Sciences, which is currently headed by Dr Ritienne Grima, is being renamed to the Department of Human Communication Sciences and Disorders.
The decision was approved by the Council meeting of 9 May 2024.
In addition to that, the name of the undergraduate programme offered by this department has changed from 鈥淐ommunication Therapy鈥 to 鈥淪peech Language Pathology鈥.
This will come into effect from the new intake of students in October 2024, and successful students will receive the qualification of B.Sc. (Hons) Speech Language Pathology.
The change aims to ensure uniformity and consistency between the name of the course programme offered locally and the title of the profession and registration nomenclature, said Dr Grima.
