There is a University of Malta Chess Club in town!
The University Chess Club is run by a group of students who also play chess and its president is Matthias Gatt. Gatt was recently the runner-up of the national blitz championship.
Its executive also includes Andre Farrugia, Dylan Phillips, Jamie Farrugia, Andrei Dobbin, Martina Portelli, Jacob Zammit, and Adam Buckle.
Together, they will be hosting a 'chess open' at the University Quadrangle on Wednesday 17 April 2024, where anyone from the ½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ community can test out their skills against seasoned chess players.
, where he said the idea to set up a ½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ Chess Club came after several students expressed interest in one, and that having a chess club on campus would attract FIDE masters to Malta on Erasmus Exchange programmes.
He mentioned the support of mathematics lecturer, Prof. Josef Lauri and other members of the ½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ community.
