Half-day seminar on French influence on Maltese architecture

‘French influence on Maltese Architecture - The heritage imparted by the French’ was the subject of a summer half-day seminar organised by the Department of History of Architecture within the Faculty of the Built Environment and coordinated by Dr Claude Busuttil. It was held at the premises of Din L-Art Helwa, in collaboration with the Cultural Service of the in Malta, the Kamra tal-Periti, and Heritage Malta.

The seminar, which brought together architectural historians and conservation experts, consisted of a conference that examined the connections between French and Maltese architecture and military engineering and their heritage. 

It was followed by a talk  on historical, heritage and conservation issues by Prof. Alex Torpiano, who was responsible for the conservation and restoration project of Fort Manoel. The seminar concluded with a round table discussion among experts. In the afternoon, Prof. Torpiano led participants on a tour of Fort Manoel, showing the conservation methods that had been applied.

Papers at the conference were delivered by Dr Christian Mifsud, Dr Claude Busuttil, Dr Hermann Bonnici, Dr Theresa Vella and Ms Suzanne Depasquale, and Dr Fleur Brincat. The event was also sponsored by Din l-Art Helwa for the venue and Sunday in Scotland for the refreshments.
