| DESCRIPTION | This unit explicates the relationship between technology and society during the modern era. It exposes the perennial debate about which entity is the driving source - technology or society - and the values cultivated by this relationship. The unit provides insights into the economic considerations of technology and its products and processes for our society. By employing the business model canvas, the unit explores the entrepreneurship skills needed by students to turn their technological product into a successful business enterprise. Study-Unit Aims: 1. To explore the ethical and value implications resulting from the interrelationships between technology and society; 2. To analyse the components of the business model canvas and how the insights provided by these building blocks apply to the students’ own potential commercial endeavours; 3. To assist students in designing business plans for technological products that integrate innovative thinking, social entrepreneurship and sustainable business practices. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit, the student will be able to: 1. Apply an understanding of the components of the business model canvas to the development of one’s own potential business enterprise. This can be linked to the final year project work; 2. Recognise the importance of social entrepreneurship and how technological innovation contributes to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals; 3. Design a business plan for a technological product or process. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit, the student will be able to: 1. Develop oral and written argumentative and presentation skills; 2. Develop qualitative research skills; 3.
