| DESCRIPTION | Practical Psychology Part 1 This first part of a second level course introduces students in a hands on fashion to basic interpersonal and intrapersonal attitudes and skills, including: - Self-Awareness; - Mood-Management; - Mindfulness; - Giving and Receiving Feeback; - Teamwork; - Dealing with conflict. Skills will be learned in a workshop setting through a brief theoretical exposition of the subject followed by practical exercises focused on the execution of the skills and their application to daily life and personal growth. Practical Psychology Part 2 This second part of the study-unit builds on Practical Psychology Part I. In this study-unit students will have the opportunity to apply the skills previously learned by acting as co-facilitators. Student teamswill be assigned a topic of psychological relevance, prepare and deliver the topic in the group and participate constructively in a feedback evaluation. In effect they will be running a life-skills session with peers and getting constructive feedback regarding their execution of this task. This part of the study-unit places students in a leadership and educational role and provides a setting where they can get feedback on the execution of these roles from peers and professionals (i.e. lecturers). Study-Unit Aims: Practical Psychology Part 1 - To teach basic personal and interpersonal skills; - To foster a collaborative, safe atmosphere conducive to experiential learning; - To foster and increase awareness and reflection. Practical Psychology Part 2 - To provide students with an opportunity to lead a group in a guided way; - To foster a collaborative, safe atmosphere conducive to experiential learning; - To foster an evaluative awareness and an ability to communicate feedback constructively. Learning Outcomes: Practical Psychology Part 1 - Awareness of self, intrapersonal and interpersonal processes; - Elementary reflexivity; - Awareness and skills relevant to applied psychology; - Personal formation necessary for the formation of future psychologists. Practical Psychology Part 2 - Ability to lead a group in experiential learning experience; - Elementary understanding of group process and individual experience; - Ability to evaluate self and others constructively. | ADDITIONAL NOTES | In the case of failure of the assessment, the student shall be entitled to re-submit the reflective diary in the September Assessment Session. The mark obtained for the workshop delivery shall be retained for the September Assessment Session. Students failing to attend Practical Psychology Part 1 will not be entitled to proceed with the study-unit and will not be permitted to sit for the assessment in May or September Sessions. |
