DESCRIPTION This study-unit aims to provide students with an introduction to yoga as a holistic practice that promotes physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The programme addresses challenges commonly experienced by university students, including academic stress, anxiety, reduced physical activity, and sedentary lifestyles.

Students will explore the physical and philosophical dimensions of yoga. The unit will introduce foundational yoga postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), relaxation practices, and basic meditation techniques, while also providing an overview of the historical and philosophical foundations of yoga.

The sessions are designed to support students in developing body awareness, flexibility, balance, muscular strength, concentration, and stress-management skills. Emphasis will be placed on cultivating sustainable healthy lifestyle practices that may positively contribute to students’ academic performance and personal development.

The study-unit will be accessible to beginners and adaptable to varying levels of physical ability and previous experience.
