Public Lecture, Networking Event and Discussion: psychosocial hazards and mental health outcomes in the workplace: evidence, implications, and action

Workplaces are increasingly recognised as powerful determinants of mental health, yet psychosocial hazards such as high job demands, role conflict, burnout, and workplace violence remain under addressed in occupational health and safety systems. Drawing on research across professions, this talk presents evidence on the prevalence and impact of mental health hazards at work, including their measurable effects on daily functioning and disability. Attendees will gain insight into how psychosocial risk assessment can be integrated into existing occupational health and safety frameworks, and into the targeted, evidence-based interventions that can prevent work disability and promote psychological safety across sectors.

OT Reg. (Ont.), PhD, FRSA, is an occupational therapist and assistant professor at the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, University of Toronto. He holds the Inaugural Emily Geldsaler Grant Early Career Professorship in the Workplace Mental Health. Dr. Nowrouzi-Kia is also an affiliate scientist at the Krembil Research Institute, Toronto Western Hospital, University Health Network and a Collaborating Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. He was also the founder of the Infinity Health Consulting Group and OT Services North.
