Event: Liema ġurnaliżmu jgħinna naslu ghall-verit u jnissel tama?
Date: Tuesday 27 October 2026
Time: 18:00-20:30
Venue: The Library of the Archbishop’s Seminary, Tal-Virtù, Rabat
What kind of journalism helps people learn the truth and inspires hope? This question will be at the centre of the next discussion meeting being held by think tank Logos on 27 October at 18:00 at the library of the Archbishop’s Seminary, Tal-Virtù, Rabat.
The speakers will be Fr Joe Borg, a visiting senior lecturer at the University of Malta’s Department of Media and Communications, and Herman Grech, editor-in-chief of Times of Malta. The discussion will be moderated by Bradley Cachia and will be followed by questions from the floor.
The speakers will address the challenges facing journalism in Malta and internationally. Newsrooms are under financial strain, while artificial intelligence and social media continue to reshape how news is gathered, verified, shared, and consumed. Journalists often face obstacles in their work and, at times, direct attacks on their integrity or personal safety. The discussion also comes at a timely moment, with a media reform bill expected to be presented in parliament in the coming days.
Yet many journalists persist in the search for truth with courage and with respect for the dignity of every person. The meeting will explore how honest and responsible journalism can help people understand what is happening around them at a time of fake news, polarisation and growing social fragmentation.
Logos is a think tank made up of people inspired by the Christian faith that creates a space for conversation within the local Church. It brings people together to discuss the challenges facing Maltese society, particularly situations marked by doubt and discouragement, with the aim of rekindling hope. Its meetings are open to anyone searching for the truth, whatever their beliefs, and draw people from academic and professional backgrounds, as well as the wider public.
Entrance to the event is free. For more information, please send an email.
