Malta is fortunate to have a wealth of fortified heritage. Most forts, fortifications and fortified towns date back to the reign of the Knights of St. John. There are also fortified heritage sites from the British colonial period. These are a vital tourism resource for Malta and Gozo.
The Department of Tourism Management is organising an international conference on Fortified Heritage for Tourism and Leisure. The event is being organised with the collaboration of FORTE CULTURA - the Network of the European Cultural Route of Fortified Heritage.
Heritage site managers, tourism professionals and restoration experts from across Europe and Malta will share their experience on the conservation and management of fortified heritage. The symposium will also include visits to several fortified heritage sites in Valletta and beyond.
