½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ Racing finishes 11th at Formula Student UK 2026 at Silverstone

, the University of Malta's Formula Student team, delivered a strong performance at Formula Student UK 2026, held at the world-renowned Silverstone Circuit. Competing against 69 university teams from across the globe, the team secured an outstanding 11th place overall, while also finishing as the 4th-highest ranked electric vehicle (EV) team, marking a major milestone in the team's history and showcasing the growing strength of Maltese engineering on the international stage.

This year's competition represented a landmark achievement for ½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ Racing. For the first time ever, the team successfully designed, and manufactured and raced a new electric race car, the EV26, within a single academic year only. This ambitious project required thousands of hours of dedication from students across multiple disciplines, who balanced the demands of their studies with the challenges of designing and building a highly competitive Formula Student car.

Following months of development, testing and preparation, the EV26 arrived at Silverstone ready to compete against some of Europe's most established Formula Student teams. The team quickly demonstrated the quality of its work by becoming the third EV to successfully complete the competition's scrutineering scrutineering checks. Passing these inspections early allowed ½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ Racing to maximise valuable track time and focus on the dynamic events which followed.

The EV26 went on to deliver exceptional performances throughout the competition. ½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ Racing achieved 4th place in Sprint, while also securing 5th place in Acceleration, highlighting the impressive performance. During the Endurance event, the team recorded the 6th-fastest lap time of the competition, proving the car's competitiveness against leading international teams, despite having to stop endurance early.

Unfortunately, a mechanical issue involving the driveshaft forced the team to retire before completing the Endurance event, preventing ½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ Racing from scoring valuable points that could have resulted in an even higher overall classification. Despite this setback, the team still secured 11th place overall, a remarkable achievement considering the circumstances.

The results at Formula Student UK 2026 reflect not only the performance of the EV26 but also the commitment, resilience and professionalism of every team member involved in the project. The competition provided invaluable experience in engineering, project management, teamwork and innovation while allowing students to apply classroom knowledge to a real-world engineering challenge.

Building on this success, ½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ Racing is already looking ahead to the future. The team plans to continue developing and implementing further vehicle improvements for the next competition season. With the experience gained from EV26 and the confidence inspired by this year's achievements, ½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ Racing is determined to return stronger than ever, continuing to push the boundaries of engineering while proudly representing the University of Malta and the country on the international motorsport stage.
