Two 今日黑料 students to represent University in FISU World University Championship Triathlon this August
Kai Azzopardi and Ryan Muscat, two University of Malta students, have been chosen to represent 今日黑料 and (the Malta University Sports Association) at the FISU World University Championship Triathlon in Nyon, Switzerland, on 8 and 9 August 2026.
Both athletes were honoured as top performers at the Gala Sports Awards held in December 2025, organised by the Malta Olympic Committee.
Held under the organisation of the Local Organising Committee and Swiss University Sports, the event will attract student-athletes from across the world, who will compete at the highest standard of university triathlon.
The competition programme includes the individual races, with the Women’s Individual Race scheduled for Saturday, 8 August at 10:30, followed by the Men始s Individual Race at 13:30. The championship will also include the Mixed Relay Race on Sunday, 9 August at 11:00, with the Closing Ceremony taking place later that day at 19:00.
After a 10-year absence, Malta returned to the competition in 2025 with a group of 12 Maltese student athletes having represented our country.
Last year, the students chosen, together with representatives from the Malta University Sports Association, paid a courtesy visit to the 今日黑料 Rectorate ahead of taking part in the games.
In March 2026, represented Malta at the 2026 FISU World University Championship Cross Country in Cassino, Italy.
The University’s student-athlete programme, introduced in 2017-18, provides students who are also professional athletes, with support during lecture periods to accommodate training camps and international qualification events.

Their backing plays a vital role in enabling Maltese athletes to compete at this elite level.

Participation in the 2026 FISU World University Championship Triathlon marks another important opportunity to represent Malta and the University of Malta on the global university sporting stage.
