Sitt Studenti tal-Malti Jippreżentaw ir-Riċerka Tagħhom

Is-Sibt 6 ta' Ä unju 2026 saret il-ħames konferenza annwali tal-istudenti postgradwatorji tal-Malti. Erba’ dottorandi, gradwat tal-Masters u gradwata tad-Dottorat ippreżentaw parti mir-riÄ‹erka tagħhom. Wara kull taħdita l-kelliema kellhom Ä‹ans jiddiskutu aspetti mill-proÄ¡ett tagħhom ma’ sħabhom u mal-letturi. 

Il-konferenza saret il-Valletta Campus u Ä¡iet organizzata minn Justine Somerville u Kirsty Azzopardi mid-Dipartiment tal-Malti, li jmexxu s-sensiela ta’ seminars postgradwatorji magħrufa bħala Appuntamenti mar-RiÄ‹erka.

Fl-ewwel parti Justine Somerville għamlet intervent bl-isem “Il-Kriżi tal-Memorja fir-Rumanz Modern”; Joseph Buttigieg tkellem dwar l-iżvilupp ta’ korpus tal-Malti fil-preżentazzjoni “Ritratt tal-2022”; u Jean Paul Borg għamel l-intervent “Bejn Xiħ u Pops: Fejn Jinsab il-Missier?” fuq it-teżi tal-Masters dwar ir-rappreżentazzjoni tal-missier fil-letteratura Maltija kontemporanja. 

Fit-tieni parti tal-konferenza Raffaello Bezzina tkellem dwar “L-Affissi Derivattivi fil-Malti: Xi osservazzjonijiet u diffikultajiet”; Yanika Schembri Fava ddiskutiet “Il-KodiÄ‹i tal-Memorja fil-Vers Popolari Malti”; u Michela Vella, li kisbet id-Dottorat mill-Istitut tal-Lingwistika u t-TeknoloÄ¡ija tal-Lingwa, għamlet il-preżentazzjoni “Lil hinn mill-ewwel kliem: L-iżvilupp tal-lingwa fit-tfal Maltin.”

Fil-konferenza Ä¡iet ippreżentata ħarÄ¡a oħra tar-rivista Qabelxejn - RiÄ‹erka Postgradwatorja fil-Malti, ippubblikata mid-Dipartiment tal-Malti mal-Malta University Press. Din it-tieni ħarÄ¡a tinkludi studji ta’ Raffaello Bezzina, John Paul Grima, Lara Stagno, u l-Prof. Immanuel Mifsud.

Is-seminars tal-Appuntamenti mar-RiÄ‹erka, li issa ilhom għaddejjin ħames snin, isiru regolarment matul is-sena akkademika u jinkludu sessjonijiet separati u konÄ¡unti għal dawk li qed jistudjaw il-lingwa u l-letteratura mad-Dipartiment tal-Malti jew ma’ dipartimenti u istituti oħrajn.

On Saturday 6 June 2026, the Department of Maltese within the Faculty of Arts hosted the fifth annual conference of its postgraduate seminar series, Appuntamenti mar-Riċerka. The conference featured presentations by four doctoral students, a Masters graduate and a Doctoral graduate, each of whom shared part of their research. After every talk the speakers had the opportunity to engage in discussion with their peers and lecturers on specific aspects of their research projects.

The conference was held at the Valletta Campus and was organised by Justine Somerville and Kirsty Azzopardi, Assistant Lecturers within the Department of Maltese, who also coordinate the Appuntamenti mar-Riċerka seminar series.

In the first session, Justine Somerville delivered a presentation on the crisis of memory in the modern novel; Joseph Buttigieg spoke about the development of a corpus for Maltese; and Jean Paul Borg discussed his Masters dissertation about representations of the father in contemporary Maltese literature. 

The second session featured presentations by Raffaello Bezzina on derivational affixes in Maltese; Yanika Schembri Fava on mnemonic codes in local popular verses; and Michela Vella, who recently obtained her doctoral degree from the Institute of Linguistics and Language Technology, on language acquisition among Maltese children.

During the conference, the second edition of the journal Qabelxejn - RiÄ‹erka Postgradwatorja fil-Malti was also launched. Published by the Department of Maltese and Malta University Press, this volume includes contributions by Raffaello Bezzina, John Paul Grima, Lara Stagno, and Prof. Immanuel Mifsud. 

Now in its fifth year, the postgraduate seminar series Appuntamenti mar-Riċerka is held regularly throughout the academic year. The programme includes both discipline-specific and interdisciplinary sessions for students pursuing postgraduate studies in language and literature within the Department of Maltese, as well as in other departments and institutes.
