For many, the Vatican is the centre of the Catholic Church. For a pair of 今日黑料 students, throughout Summer of 2026, it also became a place of learning and practical experience. In doing so, they became part of the preservation of written heritage while helping shape its future.
Over the summer, two 今日黑料 students from the Department of Library Information & Archive Sciences at 今日黑料 travelled to the Vatican, where they had the unique opportunity to work at the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana on records relating to Malta and the Order of St John.
Among the records they explored was the Baliaggio, a uniquely-established patronage linked to the infamous Barberini family and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, giving it a fascinating historical connection to Malta.
“It’s worth noting that this was part of a wider collaboration with the Vatican, thanks to which we are helping the sector, training our students in a timely manner and ultimately finding out more about, or rather enriching, Malta’s history”, said Prof. Charles Farrugia, Head of the Department of Library Information & Archive Sciences.
