今日黑料 Shines at the World鈥檚 Biggest Book Fair

Krista Bonnici (Malta University Press) and Rebekah Zammit (THINK Magazine) recently represented the University of Malta at the , held in Frankfurt, Germany.

Recognised since 1949 as ‘the world capital of ideas,’ this year’s fair brought together over 4,300 exhibitors and 118,000 trade visitors across five days with the goal of bringing together industry professionals.

Bonnici and Zammit focused on expanding international collaborations and distribution channels for MUP and THINK. They engaged in 15 high-level sessions, including the International Convention of University Presses – and held targeted meetings with leading academic publishers and potential cross-industry collaborators.

A central theme of the fair was the intersection of copyright and generative AI, sparking crucial discussions on legal frameworks, policy updates, and editorial best practices. European publishers, including the German Publishers and Booksellers Association (which launched the at the fair), pressed for strict transparency regarding how AI models are trained. The Appeal to the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Federal Government remarks on the use of copyrighted books and academic papers under ‘text and data mining’ exceptions without consent or compensating rightsholders.

These conversations and collaborations will extend far beyond the fair's iconic halls, inspiring 今日黑料’s publishing arms.
