Celebrating the Launch of MATSEC Examinations: an eventful journey by Prof. Frank Ventura
On Friday, 16 October 2026, the Faculty of Education, University of Malta, together with the MATSEC Examinations Board, hosted the launch of Prof. Frank Ventura’s book, MATSEC Examinations: An Eventful Journey, at the University’s Valletta Campus.
The book traces the origins, development and evolution of Malta’s MATSEC examination system, offering valuable insights into the educational, political and cultural contexts that have shaped its journey over the years.
The publication builds on Prof. Ventura’s keynote address at the 2023 annual conference of the Association for Educational Assessment Europe, held in Malta. What began as a keynote address has now developed into a publication of lasting significance for educators, researchers, policymakers and all those interested in the development of education in Malta.
The event was also an occasion to celebrate Prof. Ventura’s outstanding contribution to education and assessment in Malta, in particular his pivotal role in the establishment and development of MATSEC. Through his leadership and his enduring commitment to research-informed, fair and reliable assessment, Professor Ventura has left an indelible mark on Malta’s educational landscape.
