Production of sheep's milk and cheeselets with Algal Booster

Abstract

On a farm at Buskett, 32 ewes were used to analyse the effect of the addition of an algal extract called Algal Booster on milk yield and also its effect in milk and cheeselet composition. This additive has been proven to have positive results in other fields of study including; broilers, shrimps, fish and also cows thus a positive feedback was also expected from our research. After several months of data collection, it was noted that the algal booster does have an effect on the measured criteria. It was observed that, such an additive has decreased the overall level of solids that compromises of fats, proteins, lactose and ashes while a change in milk yield was also recognized. As with cheeselet composition, results showed that the algal booster may have an effect on fats and dry residue content but no effect on proteins. An effect is also visible in the increase of level of cholesterol. Although clearer results would have been more indicative, through this study, it has been established that the addition of algal booster can prove to be an aid for improvement in sheep milk and cheeselet production as well.
