This is the pattern of beliefs which determine man's vision of the world both as it is and as he would like it to be. The term left conjures up such diverse political forms as 'pink' .Euro-Communism, the welfare capitalism of Swedish social democracy, and the giants of Lenin and Mao. Right brings to mind a set of equally unhappy bedfellows: the autocratic regime of South Africa, and Italy's and West Germany's Christian Democrats as well as Thatcher and Reagan, the stalwarts of the 'New Right'.
